We at the sanctuary can’t for the life of us understand why a horse owner would abandon such a beautiful/healthy horse.

Gorgeous Gypsy and her little foal (Podrick, just a day old at the time) were spotted wandering the streets of Mysore - lost and alone. Fortunately they were found by this one lovely lady, who cared for them under our guidance at her pet resort in Mysore, until we had their stable and paddock ready here. While they were with her, we had put word out that these two babies were alive and well and most importantly, perfectly healthy, should the owner want them back. It was only fair, as there was no sign of neglect or abuse, suggesting the owner was actually quite decent.

Fortunately or unfortunately, no one showed up. And so Gypsy and Podrick arrived at the sanctuary July 11th. It has been nothing short of heartwarming to see how beautifully they’ve settled in. Gypsy already knows her routine now and requires minimum interference. She loves to graze by the paddock fence close to Sawyer and Pickett, never straying too far from them. It’s obvious she too is reassured and finds a sense of security being around the other horses, given she’s just a baby herself (she’s only 2 years old!). She is infinitely patient with the little devil that is Podrick, who’s constantly zooming around and bumping into her, desperate for attention. She’s still quite shy with humans though, not surprising considering she was abandoned, but already getting much better. She’s slowly warming up to us now and even let’s Zoha scratch her ears and stroke her face. It’s a relief to know she’s got her whole life ahead of her here with us, with nothing but love and all the freedom in the world to truly live up to her name.
